Fishing in Chiang MaiThailand's northern province of Chiang Mai provide the fisherman with plenty of opportunities for freshwater fishing with bait, spinners and flies. The province has numerous secluded lakes and reservoirs, well-stocked with snakehead, carp and sheatfish species. And fishing in Chiang Mai's lush scenery is a truly rewarding experience. Mae KwangThis reservoir is about an hour north of Chiang Mai city. It's a pristine spot, with the best fishing reachable only by private boat. The real draw here are the Mekong Giant Catfish, but it can take a lot of patience to hook one. Other species found in the lake include Giant Snakehead, Great White Sheatfish, Tilapia, Silver Barb and Bar Barb. Mae NgatThis secluded reservoir is about an hour and a half's drive north of Chiang Mai. It's surrounded on three sides by steep mountains, so the best fishing spots can only be accessed by boat. As well as MEkong Giant Catfish, the lake is home to various exotic species, inlcuding Jullien's Golden-price Carp and Small Scale Mud Carp. Accommodation aboard floating wooden rafts is available at the far end of the lake for fishermen who want to extend their stay and maybe try a spot of night fishing. The area near the rafts offers a good mix of water depths. All in all an interesting destination. Prawmajcha
